by Sat. Feb. 18 Noon. Space is limited.
We will build small brick arches using no mortar. We will also build a
small dome using "superadobe", which basically is the Earth beneath your
feet mixed with water, packed into fabric tubes, and allowed to dry.
Superadobe is fire-proof, earthquake resistant, flood resistant. It uses
thermal mass and natural airflow for cooling and heating. It involves very
little fossil fuel input or wood, and generates almost no waste in its
construction and maintenance. It is also very low cost to build.
The workshop will be conducted by Jane Higginson and Tyler Taylor
(Archelonia Permaculture). Building with the basic elements was taught to
us by award winning architects Nader Khalili and Iliona Outram of CalEarth
Institute.
