Michael Kramer is musician, father, writer, and a Registered Investment
Advisor Representative of Natural Investment Services. He is a 12-year
permaculture teacher who has focused recently on training permaculture
teachers and on how permaculture design applies to community planning,
economics, politics, education, organizational development, and
intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics. He is a former Executive Director
of Permaculture Drylands Institute, and Youth Ecology Corps, which he
founded. Michael is also a former National Service Fellow. He holds a
Master's degree from Harvard University.

Workshop participants will receive hands-on experience, under the guidance
of professional architects and builders, in constructing the county's first
fully-permitted Straw Bale Building. The workshops will encompass building
the bale walls, applying earthen plasters, constructing seating areas with
cob and superadobe, and assisting with installation of other "green"
building features, including recycled plastic lumber, biocomposite
countertops, ecological roofing materials and Forest Stewardship Council
(FSC) certified lumber. All workshop participants will receive a packet of
resource materials, to assist them in developing their own green building
projects and obtaining green construction materials.
This project is funded by a Sustainable Building Grant from the California
Integrated Waste Management Board, the Ventura County EERD, and by a
multitude of donors contributing to the non-profit Ojai Foundation.
