          Westside Permaculture Gatherings


The next Westside Permaculture Gathering is returning to the Santa Monica
Library on March 31st.  It will be in the Multi-purpose Room of the Santa
Monica Main Library from 6-8:30pm.  As usual please bring food for the
potluck.

>From 6-6:30, I will share some slides from a Sepp Holzer workshop I recently
attended, there are many innovative techniques he uses that all of us can
learn from, but the main focus of the evening will be on the Gardens of
Gratitude Event which we are looking to hold on May 14th & 15th.  The goal
is to build 100 gardens across the Westside on a single weekend.

I know, it is so long from now but there are things we can all do before we
meet.  Many of you have already committed, but there are still a lot of you
out there that may still be waiting for the right time to get involved, well
the time is now.

1) We are currently working on flyers and websites, do we have a web
developer that would like to volunteer their expertise to make a simple
site?

2)  We need sponsors, Please pick one organization (Heal the Bay, Lululemon,
Tree People, etc) to solicit either their support through volunteers,
merchandise or cash.  Deadline for this is March 21st so get out there
tomorrow.

4) We need stories and press submitted to all of our local media to help
spread the word about the event.  Do we have a writer that would like to
contribute their time to this project?

3) Volunteer your home to be a site during the weekend of the Gardens of
Gratitude event.  Sign up and state whether you plan to plant a fruit tree,
plant some potted veggies and herbs, or tear out your lawn and create an
urban farm.

4)  Volunteer your labor by helping on the garden projects either beforehand
to gather materials and/or during to build the gardens and plant the plants.

5)  Be a Garden Planting Leader.  On the Weekend of the planting parties,
volunteer to lead a team of 2-12 people in the garden planting projects.
 Upcoming trainings will be available to help prepare anyone who would like
to be a Garden Leader.
