Harnessing Water & Harvesting Soil: 2,000 Years of Water Harvesting in the Petra Hinterlands
a free talk with Erin Addison
Thursday, March 2 7:30 pm Grange Hall 2374 Alamo Pintado Road, Los Olivos
Ms. Addison will speak about research in Jordan’s northern Petra Region on 1st and 2nd century Nabataean water and soil conservation systems that have been re-used and adapted over centuries, up to the present day.
She will also discuss how water policy and land use reflects the politics of “development” and its relevance today.
Erin Addison has lived in Jordan for 20 years and began her work in the Middle East as a Fulbright scholar. She studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona, and since 2003 she has consulted on environmental projects throughout Jordan.
