Description
Please join the Santa Barbara Ag Futures Alliance (AFA) as they wrap up
a year long educational series aimed at raising awareness about the
local agricultural industry in support of local farming, ranching, and
food production.
The event is FREE. Donations accepted.
Panelists include:
-Geri French- Nutritionist/Diabetes Educator, Sansum Medical Clinic
-Melissa Gomez- Manager, Goodland Kitchen
-Jaime Herrera- Executive Chef, UCSB Dining Services
-Liz Powell- Food Services Director, Santa Maria Bonita School Dist.
-Clark Staub- Owner, Full of Life Flatbread
AFA's 4 part series has included two panel discussion in Santa Barbara
and Santa Maria about the agricultural industry as a whole, from
regulatory concerns, environmental considerations, small and large scale
farming and more. Additionally, two bus tours visited greenhouses and
nurseries, avocado ranches, farmworker housing complexes, the Foodbank
of Santa Barbara County and an organic farm.
The final forum, to be held in both Santa Maria (1/25- Shepherd Hall, SM
Public Library) and Santa Barbara (1/26- Faulkner Gallery, SB Public
Library), will highlight how local institutions, restaurants and even
the health profession is helping support a thriving local agricultural
economy.
The educational series has been generously funded by the Santa Barbara
and McCune Foundations.
The Santa Barbara AFA is dedicated to “promoting the long-term viability
of agriculture in Santa Barbara County while addressing environmental
and social concerns through a process that values dialogue and
collaboration.”
