URGENT: Dr. Serban Evaluation FRIDAY TODAY 3:00/
hi everyone
just got this announcement that Board of
Trustees of SBCC has called a ìspecial meetingî
to evaluate President Serban in a closed session,
you can come at the beginning of the meeting to
add your voice at the public comment part of the
meeting and also you can email board members
(emails below for your input)
wes
A public notice was sent TODAY about this special
meeting, barely 24 hours before the meeting.
Almost all of the faculty is GONE on break, and
they donít give enough notice for anyone to plan
to speak or attend. Plus, there are some faculty
members that are rallying support to write
letters and speak on her behalf, and they somehow
knew a few days ahead of the public notice date.
The Board of Trustees has called a ìspecial
meetingî to evaluate President Serban in a closed
session. There is public comment before they
break for the closed session. If you have an
opinion about our President and/or the direction
she is leading us, you can address the BoT, or
attend to let the Board know that WE ARE PAYING
ATTENTION. You can also email the Board members
directly (see below).

URGENT UPDATE
This afternoon the SBCC Board of Trustees gave 24
hour notice and posted an agenda on the college
website stating that the Board will hold a closed
session to evaluate President/Superintendent
Andreea Serban. A link to the agenda is here:

We urge each of you to contact the Board before
the meeting tomorrow, Friday, at 3 pm to express
your views. [email as early as possible]
Points you may wish to consider in preparing your communication include:
Dr. Serban has not supported or allowed
meaningful participation by faculty, student, and
classified stakeholders in major policy decisions
despite state and Board requirements to do so.
[give examples]
Dr. Serban's adminstration lacks transparency on
facts and important budget and policy decisions.
Critical information is not openly communicated
to the community. This includes information on
the true amount of the college's discretionary
reserve funds which currently exceed in total $38
million, while the state of CA only requires
reserves of 3% of budget which is about $2.6
million.
Dr. Serban has been unable to rally the community
to support the college and has instead alienated
the community at a time when the college most
needs its support, in good will and for future
giving.
Dr. Serban's highly controlled top down
management style has excluded the Board and
stakeholders from important policy decisions at
the college and has intimidated many faculty,
staff, classified and other employees from
expressing their concerns about those policies
for fear of losing their jobs, valuable programs
or other resources.
The community has lost trust in the truthfullness
and credibility of Dr. Serban's administration
and in the Board itself as a result of the
problems described above as well as the poor
handling and unfair application by the
administration of cutbacks and erroneous
information given about the reasons for them.
The college needs and deserves better leadership
to repair and maintain the community support
necessary to its success.
Given the concerns expressed by the community to
the Board a 24 hour special meeting notice for
Dr. Serban's evaluation is inappropriate as it
does not provide stakeholders an opportunity to
comment and express their views to the Board on
this important matter.
