Your son is correct. There are?lots of?variants of devices that purport to violate one or more of the laws of thermodynamics.? This is one of the more blatant ones.

"Its unfortunate that this idea is bullshit as it violates the second law of thermodynamics:
Which states that the entropy of the universe always increases, or (equivalently) that perpetual motion machines are impossible.
Please don't give these crooks any money, scammers are even more active now during the economic downturn.
believe me lots of people have tried to disprove the 2nd law, there's a lot of money there!? I hope nobody builds one and wastes their time.
It sure would be cool though!"
