Based on observations made while writing an article on Hawaiian organic farming production for ACRES,USA
this summer, Steve Sprinkel discusses a future marked by higher fuel and freight costs and what consumers may do to offset the expense paying more and the inconvenience of going without. World as well as local circumstances will illustrate the possibilities we have nearer to us than many imagine.

Is there a silver lining to the dark cloud shadowing our economic future?

Steve Sprinkel co-owns The Farmer and The Cook in Ojai with Olivia Chase. Their grocery/restaurant has thrived owing to specific principles and a lofty mission that some felt might be their undoing. Instead, consumers have been drawn to the authenticity of an all-organic food source, which operates on the fundamentals of local production, seasonal availability and freshness.
