FiLMS:
FED UP!
(5-6pm)
Using hilarious and disturbing archival footage (from archive.org) and
featuring interviews with farmers, scientists, government officials and
activists,
FED UP! presents an entertaining, informative and compelling overview of our
current food production system from the Green Revolution to the Biotech
Revolution and what we can do about it.
FED UP! explores the unintentional effects of pesticides, the resistance
of biotechnology companies to food labeling and the links between government
officials and major biotechnology and chemical companies. FED UP! answers many
questions regarding genetic engineering, the Green Revolution, genetic
pollution and modern pesticides through interviews with Marc Lappé and
Britt Bailey
from the Center for Ethics and Toxics, Peter Rosset and Anuradha Mittal from
Food First, Vandana Shiva from the Research Center for Science, Technology and
Ecology, Ignacio Chapela from UC Berkeleyâs Department of Environmental
Science, Policy and Management, Martina McGloughlin, Director of UC Davisâ
Biotechnology Program and many others.
Dinner at
6-7pm with Shine Cafe
DECONSTRUCTING
SUPPER (7-8pm)
Renowned chef John Bishop leads viewers on an eye-opening and engaging
journey into the billion-dollar battle to control global food production.
Starting
with a gourmet meal in his five-star restaurant, Bishop travels the world -â
from farmerâs fields to biotech laboratories to supermarket aisles â on a
personal quest to find out what our food choices are.
With a hearty appetite for food and information, chef Bishop explores the
politics and ethics of food. He discovers that 70% of processed foods on
supermarket shelves in North America contain genetically modified
ingredients. The
handful of biotech companies who control genetically modified seeds claim
this is the only way to feed the worldâs growing population. But are
these foods
safe? Are there other, less risky ways to feed ourselves? Our chef finds
answers to these compelling questions and more.
A Comedy Performance or Presentation about
Measure Q
(8-8:30pm)
In Grave
Danger of Falling Food
(8:30-9:30pm)
An engaging fun filled introduction to serious global food security issues
and the permaculture solutions. Bill Mollison tells his own story and
demonstrates easy to do techniques.
Cartoon cutaways and bizarre sound effects seem no stranger than
Billloping through Aussie suburban sleaze, guerilla planting hazelnuts. A
campy period
piece, this film tells the permaculture story with verve and imagination.
