Hey Everyone,
If you are interested in learning about sustainable landscaping and
gardening or composting check out these free classes through Santa Barbara
City College's Adult Ed. Classes.
Sustainable Landscaping and Gardening: SOIL WATER and PLANTS
Oscar Carmona, sustainable landscape and garden expert, will share his more
than fifteen years of experience teaching Santa Barbara residents how to
create healthy landscapes and thriving plants. This dynamic and
informational series covers: site planning and layout, understanding the
micro-climates of Santa Barbara and Goleta; the role of organic matter (in
the form of mulch and compost) in healthy soil, micro-organisms and their
relationship to a healthy soil; effective use of water; getting the
chlorine out of your water supply; suitable plants for Goleta and Santa
Barbara and more. Participants will learn specific techniques that they
can apply to their home landscapes and gardens. Class is held three
Wednesday s 5:30-8:30 PM September 21, September 28, October 6. Wake
Center (Turnpike) Rm. 16 (the Adult Ed. Schedule of classes in incorrect,
the correct day is Wed. not Tues.)
Composting Workshop
Oscar Carmona, Santa Barbara gardening expert, will show you how to recycle
yard and kitchen waste into a rich soil amendment. This hands-on workshop
is for residents as well as professional landscapers and gardeners. Learn
different composting methods and how to choose the right one for you. Pile
composting, worm-composting, bio-dynamic composting, compost tea, the use
of mulches and will be featured, along with the benefits of dechlorinating
water. Class meets one Saturday, September 25, from 9 AM-Noon. Meet in
Rm. T4 of the Wake Center (Turnpike) for a short introduction and
registration. Then we will carpool a half-mile to the Healing Grounds
Nursery on San Antonio Road and Calle Real for the rest of the class.
