<< Come Celebrate the One Year Anniversary of Saving Old Glory, Sat. Nov. 1,
1 pm
At the corner of Pico Canyon Road and Whispering Pines Drive, Santa
Clarita (directions below). Please pass this email on.
Bring a song, prayer, poem or piece of art to express your passion
about Old Glory.
One year ago on November 1, 2002, the 400 year old oak tree, now
known as Old Glory, was scheduled to be cut down. So on the night of
Oct. 31, John Quigley, climbed into the tree. And with the support
of a dedicated ground crew, the treesit lasted 71 days until John was
removed by the Sheriff on Jan. 10.
The Rally on Nov. 1 has the following purposes:
1. Celebrate the victory of saving Old Glory from the chain saws.
2. Keep the public (and developer) aware of our continuing attention
on saving the life of Old Glory.
3. Hear updates on the efforts to keep the tree where it is (in spite
of John Laing Homes' announcement to move the tree).
4. Support John Quigley as he faces John Laing Homes' lawsuit against
him for unspecified damages.
5. Collect contributions for the Old Glory Defense Fund.
Contributions: If you cannot attend, but want to support the effort,
you can send a tax-deductible check to the Old Glory Defense Fund,
1247 Lincoln Blvd. #253, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Directions: Take the Pico Canyon exit from I-5. Go west about 3
miles. Turn left where the road is blocked by the fence. Take the
first right, and then the second right on Whispering Pines Drive.
Park in the neighborhood and walk to the tree.
