REVISED ANNOUNCEMENT:
Ventura County Sustainable Building Workshops, 2003
First Straw Bale Workshop Huge Success Last Weekend--See Photos
Need Help Plastering This Weekend, Saturday or Sunday, April 26 & 27!!!
Reduced Rates Available! (Donations help offset The Ojai Foundation's building costs!)
The Ventura County Environmental & Energy Resources Department (EERD), in cooperation with The Ojai Foundation, is pleased to announce a series of Sustainable Building Program workshops and events in April and May 2003.
Workshop participants will receive hands-on experience, under the guidance of professional architects and builders, in constructing the county's first fully-permitted Straw Bale Building. The workshops will encompass building the bale walls, applying earthen plasters (led by Deb Huglin, who restores archaeological treasures worldwide using ancient plastering techniques which last 1000-2000 years!), constructing seating areas with cob and superadobe, and assisting with installation of other "green" building features, including recycled plastic lumber, biocomposite countertops, ecological roofing materials and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified lumber. All workshop participants will receive a packet of resource materials, to assist them in developing their own green building projects and obtaining green construction materials.
This project is funded by a Sustainable Building Grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the Ventura County EERD, and by a multitude of donors contributing to the non-profit Ojai Foundation.
Please see the attached flyer for more information and signup information. If you cannot view it, and/or wish to register immediately (space is limited, so don't delay!), please call The Ojai Foundation at 805/646-8343 x 111. You may contact the Ventura County Environmental & Energy Resources Department at 805/289-3335, if you have additional questions about Ventura County's sustainable building program, or would like a printed flyer mailed to you.
Please note that in acknowledgement of their labor and contributions to the project, all three-day workshop participants' names will be included in a commemorative plaque to remain on The Gateway Building in perpetuity. We hope to see you soon!
