Noah Smuckler, a CREEC Network Intern at Cal Poly found this great
opportunity for teachers, and we want to pass it along to you.
The California Rare Fruit Growers offer a free Grafting program to
classrooms. Students have the chance to blend the best traits of multiple
trees to create a of their own tree with more desirable characteristics. The
program takes place on school grounds and addresses heredity, genes,
evolution, and adaptation. CRFG educational instructors lead students through
the 90-120 minute program and each student has the chance to graft a tree of
their own. Fifth grade students and up as pearing knives will be briefly
used. Schedule your free presentation before November as this is a seasonal
opportunity. Contact: Joe Sabol (805) 756-7225 Laura Lopez (805) 544-2312
