Free events at Central Coast Bioneers Conference
Drop by the SLO Grange Hall Saturday afternoon October 25th to check out some of the free events at the 2014 Central Coast Bioneers Conference. The Green Marketplace is open from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. in the open space behind the Grange and features a variety of exhibitors. Beginning at noon, Bloom & Sophia will perform in the Green Marketplace and also starting at noon is the seed exchange sponsored by the SLO Seed Exchange. Even if you have no seeds of your own, come by and pick up some heirloom seeds for your garden and hear the story of where they came from and who grew them. For you drummers or drummer wannabes out there, world-class percussionists Afia Walking Tree and Michaelle Goerlitz will give a free drumming lesson from 12:30 to 1:30. If you have no equipment, no worries. Afia is bringing 20 percussion instruments for you to learn on. Inside the Grange lobby, Volumes of Pleasure will have a conference bookstore, featuring books written by Bioneers keynote speakers and other books of interest. We will also have a community art event at the Grange entrance – create a leaf to hang on our tree of hope containing your wish for the world.
Tickets to the Conference are available online through Wednesday, October 22nd, or at our retail outlets, Bambu Batu in San Luis Obispo, Volumes of Pleasure in Los Osos and Earth Tones in Paso Robles through Thursday, October 23rd.
Green Chemistry: Biomimicry and Molecular Psychology
John Warner, world-renowned green chemist and co-founder of Beyond Benign, a nonprofit for sustainability and green chemistry education, is a featured keynote speaker at the National Bioneers Conference. His amazing talk illustrating how we can create a new generation of biomimetic and green molecular building blocks that make green technology truly clean will be shown at the Central Coast Bioneers Conference on Friday afternoon, October 24. This mission is truly personal to Warner, who lost his son at age 2 from a liver disorder that was traced to industrial chemicals Warner was exposed to in his former workplace.
Idle No More: The Rise of the Canadian Native Rights-Based Movement to Protect Our Commons
Clayton Thomas-Muller is wise beyond his years and an unmatched strategist. His National Bioneers keynote talk of Canada’s rising Native-led rights-based movement, supported by labor, civil society, students and other grassroots groups to take on the Canadian petro-state is truly riveting. His organizations, Idle No More and Defenders of the Land, are leading the last best effort to save indigenous lands and the health of its people from the extractive industries and the banks that finance them. His keynote talk from the Bioneers main stage will be shown on Friday, October 24th at the Central Coast Bioneers Conference.
