WORKSHOP TO HELP LOCAL RANCHERS & AGRICULTURALISTS REDUCE DEPENDENCE ON
IRRIGATION, CHEMICAL PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS
September 8 – 11, 2011 / Orella Ranch
*GAVIOTA, CA*- The Orella Stewardship Institute, a project of the Earth
Island Institute, presents a Soil Foodweb Workshop featuring Doug
Weatherbee (soildoctor.org) who uses an applied soil microbiological
(eco) systems approach to regenerate the fertility of degraded soils.
*OSI’s Guner Tautrim said*, /“As a 6^th Generation rancher in Gaviota,
I’ve learned you cannot underestimate the value of your topsoil. It is
arguably the most important natural resource of any rancher or
agriculturalist. This workshop aims to help fellow ranchers, farmers and
land stewards understand how to naturally improve soil biology and thus
improving grasslands and crop yields.”/
Due to a grant from a local foundation, OSI will be offering *partial
and full scholarships* to select local stewards.
The course will introduce land stewards to the basics of *soil biology,
compost, and compost tea. This course is great for ranchers, farmers,
landscapers, gardeners and educators.*
Instructor Doug Weatherbee is a Certified Soil Foodweb Advisor who works
closely with the renowned Dr. Elaine Ingham, Soil Foodweb Inc. and Matt
Slaughter, Director of the Oregon Soil Foodweb Lab.
Orella Stewardship Institute, a non-profit organization based in
Gaviota, California specializing in regenerative agriculture is the host
of this unique workshop. Sponsored by LoaTree, an ecolifestyle and
services company.
