Seed School is an innovative 8-day school designed to help
participants create new regional and sustainable seed production and
distribution systems. The workshop will train gardeners, farmers,
seed savers, entrepreneurs, ngo's, policy makers and anyone else
interested in turning the tide on the industrialization of our food
and agriculture systems.
Classroom time in this permaculture inspired program will range from
an introduction to genetics to modern database management (for those
wishing to start a seed business or add a seed component to an
existing organization).
It will be balanced with hands-on activities including harvesting,
processing, germination testing and packaging seeds. Seed School
takes place in the beautiful Verde Valley in Arizona from September
25th through October 2nd, 2010.
The primary teacher, Bill McDorman, has been finding, growing,
testing, harvesting, packaging and selling seeds for 30 years. He
co-founded Garden City Seeds in 1981, started High Altitude Gardens
in Ketchum, Idaho in 1984 and incorporated Seeds Trust in 1989. He
currently oversee daily operations at Seeds Trust Southwest in
Cornville, Arizona.
