Special Features
Polar Bear Art Exhibit
Green Car Show
Stop Global Warming
Just For Kids
Polar bear photo exhibit
In the largest public exhibit of polar bear imagery ever shown in the U.S.,
photographer Howard Ruby captures the impact of global warming on Arctic regions
and starkly portrays the fact that polar bear habitat is literally melting
away, profoundly altering the polar bears' survival.
And beginning tomorrow morning, look for 125 polar bear flags
lining State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
Green Car Show
Tired of hearing about climate change and want to do something about it?
At the Green Car Show / Advanced Transportation Marketplace,
you'll see the technology of the future, including vehicles that run on hydrogen or
hydrogen fuel cells, and plug-in hybrids that have been converted to get up to 100 mpg.
You'll also see what's on the market today - including the latest in gas-electric hybrids,
full-function electric vehicles, and vehicles that run on ethanol,
biodiesel and compressed natural gas.
Learn how to stop global warming
Head toward the festival's "energy zone" and "green building zone" for great products and information.
Talk with solar installers about grid-tied and off-grid solar systems.
Check out Takagi Industrial's tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it.
See how wind turbines are reducing the need for fossil fuels. Talk with architects and builders
who have united to build carbon-neutral buildings. Check out a 3-kilowatt solar
array built just for Earth Day by REC Solar.
Just For Kids
Kids: experience life through the eyes of a polar bear! Head toward the giant polar bear flag
in the Children's Area, where you'll learn how these animals rely on the Arctic ice.
Then, pick up your Earth Day Passport and travel to booths around the festival,
where you'll learn what you can do about global warming. Join Dancing Drum
on stage to drum, dance, sing, and then head over to KDB String Ensemble booth to try out
their collection of string, brass and percussion instruments. When you're ready for some quiet time,
crawl into the "storytelling igloo" or the Wilderness Youth Project's big teepee.
This and much more can be found in the Children's Area.
