FireScaping seminar will showcase
Safe Landscaping in High Fire Areas
Friday, May 5, 2006, 9-4pm
On Friday, May 5, 2006, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and the Santa Barbara
County FireSafe Council will host Firescaping, a day-long seminar focusing on
safe landscaping in high fire areas of Santa Barbara County. Doug Kent,
author
of Firescaping: Creating Fire-resistant Landscapes, Garden, and Properties in
Californias Diverse Environment, will lead the days discussions. Topics
include practical design, risk assessment, zone therapy, plant selection,
plant
placement, and maintenance.
The seminar, which will be held at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural
History,
2559 Puesta Del Sol Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, from 9 am-4 pm, is designed
for landscape professionals, property managers, insurance and fire prevention
professionals, high fire area residents, and anyone interested. Participating
agencies are the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, U.S. Forest ServiceLos
Padres NF, City of Santa Barbara Fire Department, Montecito Fire Protection
District, and Caprinteria/Summerland Fire Protection District.
Space is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $10 which covers
