PERMACULTURE CREDIT UNION PRESIDENT PROMOTES "GREEN LENDING" MOVEMENT IN
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPEAKING TOUR
Don Sarich, President and CEO of the Permaculture Credit Union, will visit
Southern California July 17-23 to talk about the "Green Lending" movement.
Sarich's speaking tour is hosted by the South Coast Permaculture Network
with presentations scheduled in Los Angeles, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Pasadena
and San Diego (details below).
In 2003, the Permaculture Credit Union was honored by the national
Community Investing Campaign as one of 10 leading "green banking/investing"
organizations in the United States. Founded in 2000, the Permaculture
Credit Union has pioneered the first "Sustainability Discount" Loan Program
in the US for earth-friendly projects, including fuel-efficient vehicles,
home energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy generation,
water-catchment systems, and permaculture landscaping.
THE SAN DIEGO TALK will be held on Friday, July 23, 7 pm at the site of the
new (under-construction), strawbale, energy efficient "Friends Center" at
3850 Westgate Place in City Heights. The Friends Center is a collaborative
project between the Peace Resource Center, Church of the Brethren, San
Diego Friends Meeting and American Friends Service Committee. The
environmentally friendly building was designed by Hubbell & Hubbell
Architects and will provide office and meeting space for the collaborating
partners and the community. For more info about Don Sarich's talk, contact

On Saturday, July 24, the public is invited to return to the Friends Center
site for the "Annual Work-A-Thon for Peace and Social Justice." The annual
fundraiser benefits two peace groups: the Peace Resource Center of San
Diego (PRC) and Project on Youth and Non-Military Opportunities (Project
YANO). The work for the day is to plant bushes and trees on the building
site that will also be an ongoing permaculture display of "edible
landscaping." Work-A-Thon Sponsors and Volunteers are needed. For more
