Special Focus on Agriculture, Forestry, and Education!
Permaculture (Applied Ecology) is an inspiring and practical ecological
design methodology that is rooted in the following ethics: CARE FOR EARTH,
CARE FOR PEOPLE, and DISTRIBUTION OF SURPLUS. The goal of this design
system is to create abundant and regenerative agricultural and social
systems that restore habitat and provide for human needs including shelter,
sustenance, social interaction, and financial solvency. It can be applied
to urban, suburban, and watershed scales and to a multitude of climatic
conditions. Permaculture is a design science and art.
Explore the following topics through classes, field trips, and hands-on
activities:
v Landscape pattern recognition and mapping
v Ecological design methodologies
v Organic gardening and farming
v Soils, compost, and vermiculture
v Forest management and timber harvesting
v Alternative energy and appropriate technology
v Solar design and natural building
v Water conservation and erosion control
v Tools and techniques for tropical, desert, and temperate biomes
v Community development and communication skills
v Special integration of ecological design with education and
curriculum development.

designer, Founder of Sustainable Living Design, and Co-founder of
Permaculture Institute of Northern California.

Location:
This design course will be held at Green Oaks Creek Farm and Pie Ranch,
which is midway between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay on the San Mateo
County coast. Green Oaks Creek Farm and Pie Ranch are a combined 81-acre
farm with stunning forests and meadows. Green Oaks is a Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm with large gardens, ponds, draft horses,
PV system, greenhouses, and more. The farm is minutes from the beach!
Tuition:
Tuition of $950 includes course instruction, divinely catered meals by Feel
Good Foods, and camping.
