Permaculture Design Certification Course at Heartwood
With Tom Ward, Nadine Chapdelaine, and Levon Durr
May 10-23
Permaculture refers to land use systems which promote stability in society,
use resources in a sustainable way, preserve wildlife habitat, and promote
the genetic diversity of plants and animals. It is an integrated systems
approach to designing sustainable homes, farms, and communities. The
primary ethics are care for the earth and care for people through energy
efficient and health inducing methods of cultivation and building. By
studying natural systems, the student will learn to design and restore
symbiotic ecosystems in many climates that require minimal ongoing energy
inputs.
Course topics include:
permaculture methodologies
organic agriculture
ecosystem restoration/reforestation
livestock and wildlife care
urban /village development
observation and site analysis
erosion control and water storage
aquaculture / greywater systems
working in the third world
integrated pest management
edible landscaping/ medicinal herbs
appropriate technology
Through lecture, slides, discussion, observation, field study, and hands-on
activities, students will learn to design and implement systems that are
harmonious with the natural world.
14 days, 72 hours. Tuition: $1180 plus accommodations
