[Sdpg] Feb 2 Workshop Pomona

Fred's Notebook regenerative at earthlink.net
Mon Jan 27 17:36:12 PST 2003

Hey there Permafriends,

My name is Fred, and I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona's Lyle Center for
Regenerative studies. They've got a 15 acre integrated organic farm and
permaculture landscaping. Bill Roley helped plan much of the and a few
other professors taught sustainable food production.

Bob Boles trained a few of us in strawbale building techniques before we
built our greenhouse. It is awesome! Its R55 insulation and passive
solar architecture keep it warm all winter and cool all summer.

Friends and old roommates have been buying up Victorian homes around the
school, fitting them with solar panels, growing some food, brewing beer,
cooperating to shop and recycle, etc. They hold little workshops. The
info follows.

Please feel welcome to attend! (If you're coming from the San Diego County
area, I'd appreciate an invitation to carpool. Otherwise, you can join me
on the train!)

Fred

Unfortunately, Sundays are days with limited public transportation
opportunities in the southland. The metrolink line to downtown Pomona runs
only a few times during the day. The San Bernardino line runs more
frequentley on Sunday, is technically in Pomona, but is a 2 mile walk south
from Garey Avenue. Taking the metrolink into the Downtown Pomona station in
the late marning is the best bet. The return can be arranged with a carpool
with other event parrticipants, you can opt to stay here overnight if time
is not a problem, or there is an hourly bus line that comes through the
same metrolink depot in downtown Pomona the connects up to union station
and downtown L.A. (480 line).
Please feel free to contact us for more details if transportation logistics
are a problem for you.... (714) 310-4952.
