Keynote Speakers:
* Joel Salatin - third generation alternative farmer in Virginia's
Shenandoah Valley; Polyface farm has been in the Smithsonian magazine and
ABC's World New Tonight.
* Allen Garcia - certified organic rice grower on 1050 acres at the
Cosumnes River Preserve in the Sacramento Delta region, recipient of a Bay
Institute award for bringing farmers and environmentalists closer together.
* Michele Gale-Sinex - Past Communications Director at UW-Madison's
Sustainable Ag Center, currently member of Redefining Progress, dealing with
growth-based models of progress and externalization of costs in the boom
economy.
* Desmond Jolly - Director, UC Small Farm Program, well-known and
articulate advocate for small-scale family farm operations. An Ag Economist,
he served as vice-chair of the National Commission on Small Farms and helped
develop the National Small Farm Strategic Plan for the USDA.

promoting the long-term viability of California's family farms. The 1999
