Fungi are everywhere around us. They form complex symbioses with plants and animals, critical roles that keep all ecological webs intact. Mushrooms and other fungi are deeply woven in the history of the Earth and all human cultures. And today, mycology (the study of fungi) offers great potential for addressing a wealth of global issues. In this special presentation and reading, Peter will discuss all these topics and more to prove that fungi are not only incredibly interesting, but integral to the human story.

Curious about medicinal mushrooms but don't know where to start? In this workshop, join author and mushroom medicine maker Peter McCoy for a hands-on introduction to the world of medicinal mushrooms. Topics covered include the history, active constituents, and effects of over a dozen medicinal species – many of which can be easily acquired in and around Long Beach. Medicinal mushroom extracts and teas will be available for sampling and several processing methods will be covered in depth.
