Hi All,
Though most of us have problems with some of the directions the Obama
administration is taking, most of us remain hopeful that a lot of good
things may happen. But they're not going to happen without all of us
who are able, to take responsibility for facilitating change at whatever
level of society we're functioning at.
"Community Organizer" is now a profession and/or a skill set with some
dignity, thanks to our Prez. Each of us involved in the movements you
are a part of it needs to build our skill base to be as effective as we
can be, as quickly as we can, in organizing and advocating for the world
we want to live in.
Come learn and practice your community meeting facilitation skills with
master facilitator Ron Milam next Tuesday 4/28 from 7 to 9 pm at L.A.
Eco-Village. There's a $35 fee, but if you can't afford it, make it a
sliding scale.
Let me know if you're planning to come. Here's details below.
Thanks,
Lois

Introduction to Facilitation with Ron Milam
Facilitators play a key role in helping a group make decisions,
especially intentional communities and neighborhood groups. They help
create a safe environment where everyone feels like their input is
valued. In this workshop, you’ll explore the benefits of facilitation,
explore the group decision making process, explore various tools a
facilitator uses, and have the opportunity to practice facilitating a
group (and receive feedback). Good facilitation can significantly
raise the quality of life in any group that makes decisions together.
Poor facilitation can sometimes chase valuable members away from a group.
About Ron Milam. Ron has over eleven years of experience in the
nonprofit sector and provides consulting services for
sustainability-oriented organizations in the areas of fundraising,
strategic planning and leadership development. He has facilitated
numerous meetings and retreats for a variety of organizations including
the Los Angeles Eco-Village, Bike Kitchen, Echo Park Film Center and
Cultivating Sustainable Communities. Ron served as the founding
Executive Director for the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. Outside
of consulting, Ron coordinates BikeSage, a network of experienced urban
cyclists helping others discover the joys of bicycling. Ron is also a
resident of the Los Angeles Eco-Village.
Fee: $35 (sliding scale available)
