Bill will share his 30+ years of knowledge and expertise on water
topics, including:
Thinking like a watershed, a permaculture beginning, the nature of
water: its energy and magic, water harvesting, urban strategies for
storm water runoff, wastewater, graywater, blackwater, treatment systems.

* Dr. Bill Roley is an applied ecologist, environmental instructor and
consultant. He combines the disciplines of anthropology, biology,
architecture, engineering, agriculture, and ecology to address modern
challenges of providing for human needs while maintaining ecosystem
health. His teaching and design work at the John Lyle Center for
Regenerative Studies at California Polytechnic University is a graphic
example of this interdisciplinary work. He heads up the Ecological
Restoration certificate program at Saddleback College and teaches
biology at Soka University. Bill has consulted extensively with a
variety of public agencies and academic institutions on a variety of
water issues. He is founding director of the Permaculture Institute of
Southern California
Fees: Two day workshop $150 (sliding scale available). Some partial
and full scholarships available.

INTRODUCTION TO FIBER ARTS WITH BRAD MOWERS

This one day hands-on workshop will cover:
- Learning how a piece of clothing is made, starting from plants and animals
- Carding
- Spinning with drop spindles and a spinning wheel
- Natural dyeing with plants
- Review of various natural fibers and dyes
- Basic weaving techniques such as plain weave, twill, twining and
horizontal striping
- Weaving on rigid heddle, table and floor looms
- Making looms with branches and beginning to weave utilizing
"throwaway" materials--garden materials, torn clothing and plastic bags
Brad Mowers has been weaving, spinning and dyeing with natural fibers
for 20 years. His studio is located in the Los Angeles Eco-Village. Some
of his work can be viewed or purchased on his website
<www.bradleyweaver.com>. He draws his inspiration from the Earth and his
design elements reflect the richness and variations of Nature.
