Hello Permaculture Community in SLO area,
Let’s choose unity and commune with one another and with nature in these tumultuous times.
Let’s show compassion instead of separation. Let’s have togetherness and joy in the process of creating a more regenerative, permaculture solution based society. Let’s create the kind of future that is respectful of nature, of people, plants, animals and our resources.
That is what we will be doing next week at the FARMGIRLS Summer Camp.
Permaculture Education for Women and Children- Regenerative Agriculture & World Horticulture program at Our Global Family Village at City Farm June 26 – 29 from 8am to 12noon
FARMGIRLS Summer Camp is Girl Power for our Future Food System! FARMGIRLS Summer Camp is held at Our Global Family Farm, a permaculture demonstration site located at City Farm SLO. It features food crops and indigenous food cropping systems from the four corners of the globe. FARMGIRLS Summer Camp will include farming, cooking, eating, making crafts, singing and nature hikes. The FARMGILRS summer camp is a place where women and girls of all ages can learn about how to grow food in an ecological approach that follows the ethics of permaculture: care for the earth, care for one another, and share the abundance. Together we can create a food system that is Regenerative, Healthy, Local, and Resilient.
There are just two spots left. Register online by June 21st: http://www.permaculture.us.com/farmgirls/farmgirls-summer-camp
Location: Our Global Family Farm at City Farm in San Luis Obispo http://centralcoastgrown.org/city-farm/
1221 Calle Joaquin Road – frontage road along Highway 101, next to Alfano Motors and the new BMW car dealerships.
Many women have come together to contribute to this community experience we call FARMGIRLS Summer Camp:
We will have a daily craft, such as painting, seed collages, making a Dream Pillow, plant weavings and mandalas. (Special guest for the making of mandalas with Mishlyn Verdon https://www.spiritguidecambria.com/ )
We will have a guest Farm Woman each day telling us a bit about their farm business such as Ruth Maddocks (Branch Mill Organic Farm), Courtney Mellblom (Farmer Maid Flowers), Christine Heinrichs (The Chicken Lady), Maddie Lindsey (Lindsey Family Honey Business) and SLO Veg.
We also have a guest chef each day such as Jeanne Brodie (Ravenous), Terri Knowlton (Fig Restaurant), Courtney Coleman (Cookwell with Courtney), and Angelica Peach (Conscious Plant Based Cuisine).
COMMUNITY PARTNERS
The SLO Natural Foods Coop and the SLO Guild Hall have shown unity and compassion by giving scholarships to families who need assistance in getting to the FARMGIRLS Summer Camp.
The CA Rare Fruit Growers Central Coast Chapter visited the City Farm and doing what they can to help with this community farm project.
Here is a report on their visit: http://www.crfg-central.org/newsletters.html
COMMUNITY FARMING
Talking about community farming, Our Global Family Village at City Farm, is now opening up plots of land for people to garden. There is no cost, but there are some logistics to figure out such as using the community water pump on the farm. Please contact me, Teresa Lees, treelees at charter.net if you’d like a plot of land to tend in the ‘village’. We need more “hands on the land.” The motto of Our Global Family Village has always been “Stand Together on the Land as One” as we are “all part of one big family here on planet Earth.”
COMMUNITY WORK PARTIES AT CITY FARM – Second Saturdays
Come lend a helping hand on the farm on the Second Saturdays of the month 9am – 1pm.
July 14, August 11, September 8 are the next few months days. We will have fun and also have summer crops for those who work the land.

COMMUNITY DIRECT ACTION for Families Belong Together
Several protests are planned for across San Luis Obispo County in opposition to the U.S. government's policy of separating undocumented immigrants from their children. Protests are planned for Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cambria, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo, beginning Thursday, June 21 and culminating with a June 30 rally in front of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Courthouse that is timed to coincide with a nationwide day of protest.
