tribute to Bill Mollison.

October 8 - City Farm SLO Announces its 1st Fall Harvest Festival

1st Annual Fall Harvest Festival at the Calle Joaquin Agricultural Reserve,
1221 Calle Joaquin, San Luis Obispo. From 1 to 5pm experience a fun,
interactive afternoon between farmers and the public, especially for
children. Come see the results of the activity that has been taking place at
the farm, located along Hwy 101 between Madonna Rd and Los Osos Valley Rd
exits, for the last few months.

Tour the farm, meet the farmers, and take part in planting and harvesting
activities. Celebrate the opening of the “Pergola”, the new onsite learning
center. Highlights of the day include a farmers market, cooking demos with
Jerrod Cerniglia, Pacific Wildlife Care rescues, yoga with Terry Hooker,
hayrides and music by the Albert Jr. Band. Meet organizations who share a
commitment to local sustainable urban agriculture: Solar Cookers, Seed Saver
Exchange, Slow Money SLO, Empower SLO, and Glean SLO to name a few. 

After three years of managing agricultural and educational activities on the
19 acre Calle Joaquin Agricultural Reserve, Central Coast Grown invites the
community to learn more about City Farm SLO, its daily operations, the
programs that take place there, the affect it is having on the community and
how you can get involved.

Children are free.  A recommended donation of $5 per adult will be
appreciated. The first 250 adult donors will receive a bag to carry their
purchases of fresh produce and juices.

Funds raised at the festival will enable Central Coast Grown to continue
staffing its onsite educational programs which include:  

*	The City Farm School Project, a year-long class at Pacific Beach
Continuation High School provides academic credit and hands-on instruction
in agricultural activities, food preparation, nutrition, and food system
issues
*	The Horticultural Therapy Project for the PREPARE program provides
twice-weekly sessions of farm and garden activities onsite for
developmentally disabled young adults
*	The projects of Our Global Family: weekend farming experiences for
elementary school age children and their families and

October 14 – Lavra Open House

Our intentional community, The Lavra (thelavra.org <http://thelavra.org/> ),
is having our fifth annual Peace, Love, Lavra Open House on Saturday,
October 14th.  This is an opportunity for us to celebrate community, the
past year, and all the projects that (nearly) got done during that time.
This year on the main stage we are excited to have The Turkey Buzzards out
of Morro Bay (http://www.theturkeybuzzards.com/) spinning some "Americana
Bearded Outlaw Country Flannel Folk," as they describe themselves.   If you
haven't heard them, you are in for a treat!

 Come see both old and new friends as well as all the changes to the Lavra,
including the new yurt, the cob wall and cob pizza oven, a new tiny home,
new chicken coop for our 30 birds, and so much more.   Plus, we will once
again have an altar set up for reflection/meditation and late night dancing
with DJ Jnan in the yoga studio. 

Kids are welcome and there will be kid-friendly activities throughout the
evening as well as the farm friends: goats, chickens, turtles, dogs, and
lizards. The mushroom and its zipline will also be available. 

As always at the Lavra, any kindred soul is invited and camping is available
if you don’t want to drive home on Saturday as long as you bring your own
tent and supplies.

Bioneers UPRISING – November 4

Tickets are now on sale for Central Coast Bioneers 2017, which will be held
9am to 5pm, Saturday, November 4 at the SLO Guild Hall, 2880 Broad Street in
San Luis Obispo.  Featured will be the following keynote talks from the
National Bioneers Conference, held October 20-22, 2017 in San Rafael:

Help Each Other

>From December 6-10, 2017, Earthworks for Farm Resilience, a fundamental
course in farm scale water harvesting techniques will be taking place in San
Luis Obispo, California. 

Join international educator, Warren Brush, with a dynamic teaching team at
BLANK Farm. Learn about earthworks and hydration strategies for ecological
farming, land restoration, and agroecosystem stability and resilience.

Whether you are working on your own landscape, farm, or as a consultant,
this course will grow your skills in the appropriate design and construction
of structures that will reduce erosion, increase productivity, harvest &
store water, and create resiliency in the ecologies that sustain us.  

A major component of this course will be hands-on skill development where we
will establish on-site earthworks with large earthmoving equipment. Students
will be able to dive deeper into large earthworks development, water
infiltration strategies and systems linking, planting and commissioning, and
additional hydration strategies.
