Hello Permaculture Guild of SLO area & beyond,

Our best call to action for the future is to act locally. Our best efforts
are to support local efforts and local people. We also are honoring a member
of our community is going through his final transition into the next
world... Jim Cole, who has assisted us through many years of the SLO
Permaculture Guild. We honor you Jim for all your sustainability, Transition
Town and permaculture efforts and we will miss you dearly Jim Cole.

Please support these local efforts:

GAINING GROUND presents the personal stories of farmers and activists
confronting the challenges of feeding their local communities sustainably
grown food. The documentary interweaves experiences of Urban Tilths
farmer-activists transforming corners of Richmond, California's inner city
food desert into vibrant community gardens; Sun Gold Farm, a small family
farm in rural Oregon converting from commodity dairy to sustainably grown
produce and Stalford Seed Farms in the Willamette Valley transitioning from
growing grass seed to organic grains.

GAINING GROUND was an official selection of the 2016 San Luis Obispo Film
Festival and of the 2016 Chicago International Film Festival and is now
being shown at many local venues throughout the country.

CENTRAL COAST GROWN is the non-profit organization tasked with managing the
20-acre CITY FARM SAN LUIS OBISPO at the Calle Joaquin Agricultural Reserve,
located adjacent to Highway 101 between Madonna and Los Osos Valley Roads.
City Farm makes fertile irrigated land available to small farmers and
conducts educational programs for the general public and for San Luis
Coastal Unified School District.

The film was made by friends of Central Coast Grown and was selected for
last year's SLO Film Festival. It's now being screened throughout the
country. You can watch the trailer here:

https://vimeo.com/65653591

The evening's program will also feature some brief talks and a slide show
about our local programs and will include food, beverages and a silent
auction.

For more information and to purchase tickets or provide Central Coast Grown
with your support, please go to:

Hope to see you there.

OUR GLOBAL FAMILY Village at City Farm

We have a permaculture demonstration garden at City Farm that is a community
project of the SLO Permaculture Guild. This garden is a gathering place for
children, families and community members to be on the land together as one,
to grow food crops from around the world, and to harvest our collective
knowledge on how to grow food. This piece of land will also be dedicated to
school field trips starting this spring and into the future.

The SLO VBC is a 4 day convergence consisting of neighborhood-based urban
permaculture (organic agriculture & holistic community building) projects by
day, and evening festivities that showcase local talent in the arts, and
local projects and people who are helping to improve our ecological and
societal infrastructure.

By Donating to this Campaign, you are helping to build a more sustainable,
regenerative, and resilient San Luis Obispo, where neighbors know each
other, people help each other, and the neighborhoods are beautified and
safe. This project branches from the Portland Village Building Convergence,
which began 17 years ago, and has spread to other cities such as Santa
Barbara, Sebastopol, Olympia, and Nevada City. Portland has completely
transformed it's infrastructure, making it one of the most vibrant,
creative, and safe cities in the world. San Luis Obispo is already a
beautiful city, and has this potential to further beautify and harmonize.
The time is ripe for us to participate in the co-creation of a thriving SLO.

Each day of the convergence, neighbors and visiting friends will come
together to create community spaces that feature public art, permaculture
gardens, and natural building projects. Participation in these daytime
events are free for everyone!

This is a process we call "place-making," turning physical "spaces" into
community gathering "places." In these beautiful places, the community is
empowered to share their gifts, and to laugh, talk and create. These
transformed neighborhoods can include features such as: street murals,
community gardens, little-free-libraries, free poetry stands, community
event and message boards, outdoor tea/coffee station, cob benches, safe
children's play areas, and other creative projects envisioned by neighbors.

In the evening, we come together for an inspiring conference, community
gathering, and incredible music in the style of a mini-festival. These
evenings begin with a community dinner at 6pm, workshops at 7pm and music at
8pm. The tickets for these evening events are affordable and help to support
our place-making and community-building service work.

The SLO City Repair mission statement: "To recreate our village centers and
reconnect with our neighbors. To create neighborhood groups whose mission is
to improve the "Health and Happiness" of the neighborhood. To inspire our
humanity by creating living art in our streets and reclaiming our commons."
-Roberto Monge
