If you enjoyed Starhawk's talks on permaculture activism this past year
and wanted more of the magical/spiritual side of her teachings, you
might want to check out this event, which is the first core course in
the Witchcraft tradition that she was deeply involved in developing:
Elements of Magic
A Weekend Intensive in Santa Barbara, California
Friday, January 13th - Sunday, January 15th
With the art of magic, we deepen our vision and focus our will,
empowering ourselves to act in the world. In this class we begin the
practice of Magic, Witchcraft, and God/Goddess spirituality by working
with the Sacred Elements of Magic: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.
Techniques include: visualization, sensing and projecting energy,
chanting, trance, sacred movement, creating magical space, spell-craft,
and structuring rituals.
Elements of Magic is a core class in the Reclaiming Tradition of
Witchcraft (http://www.reclaiming.org). You do not need to be part of
this tradition to participate. Group experience happens in the
framework of feminist consensus process. We hope to provide a fair and
nurturing environment for all participants.
$150 to $75 sliding scale.
Work exchange/scholarship may be available.
Please register by January 1, 2006 by calling 805-252-9472 or emailing
whedon at umail.ucsb.edu.
Please be committed to promptness and attendance of the whole weekend.
All genders welcome. Reclaiming events are drug and alcohol free.
Prerequisite: Read the first six chapters of Starhawk's Spiral Dance.
Teachers:
Flame Malamed, co-founder and High Priestess of Indigo Artichoke
Hearth, has been a Reclaiming Priestess for over thirteen years. She is
a certified yoga instructor, an Ishaya Ascension practitioner, and a
licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has attended numerous
Witchcamps, the Dandelion gathering, and Spiral Dances, and has
facillitated both large and small-scale rituals. Flame's daily practice
includes writing, dreaming, trance, body movement, drawing, and
empathic attunement. A trained visual artist, Flame is currently
working on her fourth novel and a series of paintings. Her passions
include gender play, reading, power-sharing, aspecting, pushing the
envelope, energetic healing, and Ritual Therapy. She is proud to
continue the Jewish tradition of strong, magickal women.
MoonSong is an avid reader, writer, gamer, dungeon master, and all
around nerd. A lover of life and a passionate spirit, she has been
making magick, Reclaiming style, since 1999, although magick has been
with her since the beginning. Having completed the Advanced Magickal
Studies teacher's track, she continued her work in the tradition with
ReWeaving Southern California for six years facilitating workshops,
classes, and large public rituals. She attended California Witchcamp
and Dandelion Gathering to taste the constant evolution and ecstacy of
the Reclaiming tradition. Her work continues as she counts among her
blessings the fortune of being co-founder of Indigo Artichoke Hearth,
and co-high priestess of MMAF Moon Circle. MoonSong lives a life on the
edge between shadow & light, immersed in her personal work, and
digging, digging, digging in the darkness of the universe. She resides
in Laguna Niguel, CA where she practices magic & art, and obsesses over
Dungeons & Dragons, her amazing husband Jesse, and her almost edible
2-year old son Jonathan.
Sarah has been practicing Witchcraft for fourteen years and has been
priestessing, studying, and making magic in Reclaiming community for
three. Professionally, she has an MA in Religious Studies from CU
Boulder, is a doctoral candidate in Religious Studies at UCSB (with an
emphasis in Women's Studies), and is an ALACE trained birth doula.
Sarah studied with Diana's Grove Mystery School in 2005 and is
currently nurturing a passionate love affair with ecstatic dance. She
is committed to facilitating processes by which individuals and groups
can come into their own knowledge and power, and is particularly
thrilled to be mentoring both a Goddessdaughter and Godson.
