Monte Vista's Fruit Orchard/Food Forest Project SB NEEDS HELP TOMORROW
AFTERNOON Friday Mar 3
Monte Vista School is planting a fruit tree orchard and the community is
invited to participate! TOMORROW afternoon Friday Mar 4, help is needed at
730 Hope Avenue, S.B., to move a mountain of mulch as the final layer of
compost, punctured cardboard and mulch for the several thousand square foot
site. This is a super opportunity for high school students seeking
community service! Everyone is welcome to come "pitch in." . Come for an
hour ,there are many jobs for all folks regardless of Physical strength, or
just drop by and observe the work that has happened so far.
THIS is a way for the community to show that these projects have the
community's support. this is a way of building community
March 10th, next Thursday, is planting day. African-American drumming,
environmental lessons and hands-on planting experiences will be facilitated
by a non-profit group called Common Vision, an outreach project of the CA
Sustainability Program. The SB Permaculture Guild is overseeing the local
project, which is one of 45 school sites being visited during a 70-day CA
school tour. Volunteer labor, planting mix, some varieties of fruit trees
and financial support would be appreciated for Monte Vista's fruit
orchard. Please contact teacher Judy Sims at Monte Vista School, 687-5333,
or leave a message at 687-3262. There are on-going gardening and
environmental projects at the school and volunteers are ALWAYS welcome!
