Information
The Ventura/Santa Barbara Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers
cordially invites you to be a part of the 2002 Festival
of Fruit. This years exciting event is to be held on August 10, 2002, in
the City of Santa Barbara, California, considered by
many to be the worlds Garden of Eden.
The Festival of Fruit gets rolling at 9:00 AM at Santa Barbara City
Colleges West Campus, the 800 block of Cliff Drive,
located just one block past the schools main entrance. Registration starts
at 8:30 AM, when information on speakers and
rooms will be given. Santa Barbara is known by many as the American
Riviera, frequently the destination of vacationers from
around the world. Its year-round Mediterranean climate boasts 300 days of
sunshine on average, and fresh ocean breezes. Set
on a sweeping coastline of the Pacific with the Santa Ynez mountains as a
backdrop, Santa Barbara nestles like a jewel in a
countryside dotted with wineries. It is also near the City of Solvang--an
authentic Danish experience. With its fascinating history,
unique architecture and extraordinary setting, Santa Barbara alone offers a
vast array of attractions. But wait--Santa Barbara
County is also brimming with attractions. Everywhere history whispers from
the red-tiled roofs of fine old buildings, and natural
beauty beams from the varied landscape of the areas mountains, valleys,
coastal foothills and the sea. Throughout the county,
visitors can find beautiful subtropical and tropical gardens, parks, unique
museums, historic buildings and a rich array of natural
attractions.
This is your chance to enjoy the Festival of Fruit and have the vacation of
a lifetime, but register early--make your reservations
now, because summer is the areas busiest time; accommodations may soon
become scarce and hard to find. Dont forget that
you can also obtain lodging at the nearby cities of Ventura, Carpinteria,
Buellton, Santa Maria and Goleta. Some hotels and
motels are listed on the back of this page. Plan now to make this Festival
of Fruit your annual vacation trip; spend a week or
two here. The Festival of Fruit speakers on Saturday, August 10th, and the
tours on August 11th will give visitors a look at
many fruits grown in this area, such as papaya, banana (the Fruit of the
Year--actually an herb), citrus, mango, guava, jujube,
pineapple, lychee, longan, cherimoya, olive, coffee, avocado, passiflora
(passionfruit), ginger and macadamia nut. There is also
a wide range of deciduous fruit trees grown here.
Please be advised, you can bring friends and relatives to the Festival of
Fruit. Your CRFG membership is for the member listed
and spouse. All nonmembers will pay an additional ten dollars ($10), or
they can put the ten dollars toward a membership of
$25 for one year--but only at the time of this event. If a member brings a
guest, the guest fee is the same as for members. All
fees for this event are on a per-person basis.
