                                  What has hundreds of millions of
                                  inhabitants and fits in the palm of your
                                  hand? One gram of healthy soil. A gram
                                  of soil may contain several hundred
                                  million beneficial bacteria comprised of
                                  40,000 different varieties of soil biota.
                                  Soil samples from conventional
                                  chemically grown farms, however, can
                                  contain as few as 100 varieties of
                                  bacteria per teaspoon. Healthy soil is a
                                  teaming universe of bacteria, mycorrhizal
                                  fungi and protozoa, whose life cycles and
                                  network functions result in a living soil
                                  rich with fertility.

two-day program on
                                  all aspects of the soil food web with 
soil scientist Dr. Elaine
                                  Ingham, President of Soil Foodweb 
Incorporated, Associate
                                  Professor Courtesy Research, Department 
of Forest Science,
                                  Oregon State University. Dr. Ingham has 
worked to reduce the
                                  use of chemical pesticides and 
fertilizers by encouraging and
                                  enhancing the soil food web, resulting in 
healthier plants and
                                  higher yields. Joining Dr. Ingham will be 
Bob Cannard, a
                                  unique and innovative Sonoma county 
farmer who has years of
                                  experience designing on-farm fertility 
systems using the
                                  resources and materials readily 
available, creating a soil that
                                  is remarkable in its aroma, 
nutrient-giving properties and
                                  vibrancy; and Gabriel Howearth, one of 
the founders of Seeds
                                  of Change and presently director of 
Siempre Semillas, who
                                  was featured in the December 2000 issue 
of Herbal Gram

extraordinary ten-acre
                                  Botanical garden in Baja Mexico that has 
over 3,000 plant
