MORE ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Ecovillage Design is an emerging field which addresses the planetary crisis
in wholistic ways to promote long term community sustainability.
This workshop provides an opportunity to explore the integrated approach of
planning and designing ecologically sustainable neighborhoods and presents
an overview of the design principles used in successful projects around the
world.
Ecovillages are designed to encourage people who live in and visit them to
develop an understanding of the interconnectedness of the natural world, to
create beneficial relationships between the ecological, social, economic
and spiritual aspects of their lives. The aim is to engage people fully
with their head, heart and hands.
ABOUT MORAG GAMBLE AND EVAN RAYMOND
Morag and Evan have led permaculture workshops in nine countries and have
worked extensively in Bali and Lakakh. Their home ecovillage, Crystal
Waters, received the World Habitat Award for its "pioneering work in
demonstrating new ways of low impact, sustainable living." Crystal Waters
was also included in the UN's World's Best Practices list in 1998.
Co-founders of the Australian City Farms and Community Gardens Network,
local food initiatives, community festivals and environmental education
programs, Morag and Evan also run a professional ecological design firm
(Sustainable Futures). Morag has authored numerous articles.
They are two of the key environmental and community educators from Crystal
Waters which offers programs for all ages and nationalities. Morag and
Evan recently founded the Crystal Waters College. The extensive research
they have undertaken within the community for a book about the lives and
work of people at Crystal Waters enables them to share with you many of the
fascinating personal stories and insights of life in an ecovillage. They
are directors of an ecological design firm, Sustainable Futures, and work
in partnership with the Global Ecovillage Network Oceania/Asia Inc. Morag
has also been a Director of the Crystal Waters Co-operative for three years.
Morag holds a Bachelor of Environmental Planning and Design and a
Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture from the University of
Melbourne and has studied extensively at Schumacher College in England, an

its pioneering ways in demonstrating new low impact and sustainable ways
of living and has been listed in the top 40 of the UN Best Practices database.
Crystal Waters is a leading-edge center for sustainable design and
ecological education. Established in 1989, Crystal Waters is home to 200
