Subject: alive, alive O

Dear Novelty Folk--

After nearly three weeks I returned today for a couple of days at home on 
the Big Island.  The last days have been the most illuminating and
interesting of my life.  I am very lucky to be alive.  And now I must
grapple with the challenge and mystery of life with cancer.  In the course 
of this crises there was ample opportunity for me to cross the great water, 
however at 52 I am not yet ready to leave this lovely blue planet with its 
jungles, ruins and museums.  Next week I will return with my partner Christy 
to Honolulu and I will begin the course of treatment that logically follows 
having had the Gamma Knife  surgery on my brain tumor.  Hundreds of people 
have contacted me and dozens have sent suggestions for ways to respond to 
this situation.  My pharmacologist brother has done heroic effect to check 
out and research all these possibilities.  Please know, even if I cannot 
respond to each message individually that your focus and concern was 
critical in keeping me alive through difficult moments.

I will post more as thoughts occur to me.  For the moment I rejoice in the 
strength of our community and the depth of our love for each other.
