Take a sunny get-away this winter and learn hands-on skills to change the
world! Join a renowned team of designers and teachers this February for a
Permaculture Design Certification course at Rancho Sol y Mar on the
warm Pacific coast of Mexico.
This Permaculture Design Certification Course builds on the standard
72-hour PDC curriculum with special attention on the design process, site
assessment skills and personal sustainability.
Studying permaculture at Rancho Sol y Mar offers you the opportunity to
learn from and interact with existing regenerative living systems AND
help design and build new systems using permaculture strategies and
techniques.
The practicum of this course will include design of a Perennial Food
Forest and a ranch-wide review of systems and best practices.
Working with a design team, you will:
- Gain design experience to apply in any climate zone for your own
permaculture site.
- Log extensive design time mentored by leading ecological
designers.
- Learn mapping tools, working with light and water
- Work with renewable energy systems and natural building
- Build and improve soil through multiple regenerative
techniques
- Experience food preservation, fermentation, cheese making, etc
- Gather earthworks & planting techniques for installing a perennial
food forest
- Participate in animal husbandry (goats & chickens)
-Practice personal sustainable living skills to renew and replenish the
earth
Located located just minutes away from the Mayto Beach, two hours south
from Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, Rancho Sol Y
Mar is a working organic dairy farm, off-grid ranch and solar
campground.
Rancho Sol y Mar is powered by solar energy to create electricity, heat,
pump and recycle water, run electric fencing, as well as for cooking and
dehydrating the organic foods grown on site. Participants join a medley
of farm animals (chickens, horses, a mischievous burro, an equally
mischievous dog, and a frolicking herd of happy goats). Ranch produces
its own artisan cheeses. There are adobe, compressed earth block, stone,
and other natural, locally sourced building materials produced and used
on site. Students participate in permaculture-based work at the ranch
with dairying,composting, solar system observation, adobe and cob
demonstration, gardening support and watershed restoration. This class is
particularly recommended for environmental students and educators,
homesteaders, small scale farmers, design professionals, and people
involved with small scale diverse agricultural settings as well as anyone
wishing to apply permaculture principles to their own lifestyle.
Participants receive an
internationally
recognized certificate in Permaculture Design.
LOCATION: This course is offered at the
Rancho Sol Y Mar Sustainability
Education Center that is located 2 hours south of Puerto Vallarta,
near town of Mayto. The area has seen almost no commercial development
but that is rapidly changing. Five minutes from Mayto (population
approximately 200) the town of Tehuamixtle, a beautiful fishing village
of about 100 people, tucked into a rocky headland, and with a calm,
swimmable beach. Rancho Sol Y Mar offers a wonderfully tranquil
opportunity to learn sustainability in action, gain practical skills and
enjoy tropics. Participants have options of renting spaces at the
low-impact
Sol Y Mar Solar Campground – with their own RVs, or tent
camping with access to all
facilities.
