For Immediate Hire: Lead Instructor at Earthroots Field School

Weekly Homeschool Field Classes, Fall 2010

 

Earthroots Field School, based in Orange County, California, is looking for a dynamic leader with

excellent teaching skills and experience in nature-based education: ecological gardening, wilderness

awareness, ecology and sustainable living skills.

 

Responsibilities: Lead and instruct small groups of children ages 5-14 in weekly, nature based

educational field classes. Communicate with parents via email/phone weekly. Support assistant

instructors and volunteers in developing their abilities to work with youth in nature. Represent Earthroots

to build relationships with community liaisons, families and staff. Work together with administrators

towards these goals with clear communication, strong work ethic and solid teaching skills.

 

Compensation: based on Experience, $18-$25 per hour

 

Start date: Staff training begins August 29, 2010. Classes begin September 14.

Teaching Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 8:45-2:30, +2 hrs (flexible) per day for prep & meetings

 

Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree

- Must have minimum 3 years teaching experience with children/youth within the age range 5-16, not

necessarily limited to classroom teaching

- Must have experience as a lead instructor teaching two or more of the following categories: Wilderness

Awareness Skills, Ecological Gardening, Primitive Skills, Sustainable Living Skills, Adventure/Camping, Healthy

Cooking, Outdoor Science, Permaculture.

 

Requirements:

- Currently certified in CPR/First Aid

- Fingerprinting upon request

- Valid Drivers License

- 20 hours participating in Earthroots Field School classes as a volunteer or intern

- Cell phone

- Personal computer with internet access

- Reliable Personal vehicle

- Staff Training with Earthroots Field School

 

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

- Knowledge of Southern California wilderness areas, regional parks, community and school gardens,

organic farms, local community organizations, local educational programs and organizations

- Completion of training courses in the fields of Permaculture, Coyote Mentoring, Wilderness Awareness,

School Gardens, Ecological Gardening, Garden to Table Cooking or equivalent.

- Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder or equivalent
