This is to inform you about an exciting garden-related job opportunity. The Community Roots Garden in Oxnard has entered into a partnership with Community Action of Ventura County which will allow the garden to expand its community education and outreach efforts, especially targeting low income members of the community.
Funding is available to hire one, possibly two, temporary (5-month) Garden Master positions to assist with this project. The job announcement can be found on Community Action's website at
www.ca-vc.org/Jobs.aspx?menu=5#1. (Note that the term - 10-months - listed in the job description is incorrect due to funding delays.)
The job description includes garden managing tasks as well as community
outreach tasks. We encourage those who feel they are qualified in only one of these areas to apply anyway as it may be that the job is best accomplished by two positions. This job announcement is open until filled. The announcement could be closed in as little as two weeks (by April 9), so if you are interested in the position, it is important that you apply as soon as possible.
Please email any questions you have about the position to info@communityrootsgarden.org. Job applications are to be submitted to Community Action.
Please also help us by posting and circulating this announcement as appropriate.
Information about the garden and Community Action can be found below, along with the URLs to their websites.

The Community Roots Garden Board
Community Roots
Garden
The
mission of the Community Roots Garden is to grow a community of gardens - at the church property
and, by example, in our neighborhood - that yield healthy local
produce; to share produce with neighbors and friends in need; to empower one
another - through learning, teaching, and cooperating - to nourish ourselves
justly, sustainably, and self sufficiently; and to restore wellness to the land
the human spirit and the community through our core commitments to hunger
relief, sustainability and caring for the community.
Community
Roots Garden currently operates a one-acre community garden at the North Oxnard United Methodist Church, located at 2300 W. Gonzales Road in Oxnard. Community Roots Garden is a ministry of the church. The harvest from the garden goes to local food pantries, shelters and
other outlets to help those in need. The garden also serves as a food growing
training facility.
