What’s up party people!

This is Devin here with an update about the upcoming “Creating an Edible Oasis in a Day” Workshop THIS SATURDAY March 7. I want to give more details about what we’ll be up to and get some help with setup as well. We’ve got some things that make it all totally irresistible!

Since this is a last minute course, please email this to everyone you know who would be interested in taking the course! You can forward this email or send a new one with the pdf or jpg attachment. The bigger the party the better!

1. WHAT WE’RE UP TO THIS WEEKEND

First, check out the flyer for the info that’s already out there. (http://groups.google.com/group/grow-food-party-crew-ventura , http://www.myspace.com/growfoodpartycrew) What we will be doing in this workshop is designing and implementing a water harvesting and food forest project in the front yard of a Ventura residence. So yes, we’ll creating a real community resource together that will also be a model for every yard around town! And yes, we’re doing it in the Grow Food Party Crew spirit of having fun, and playing music and celebrating abundance!

We will be embodying the saying “the knowing is in the doing” and emphasizing the hands-on aspects of designing and implementing together with the intention of everyone leaving with the designer’s tools and experience to replicate it in their own yard or somewhere else around town. We will have a lecture component (to satisfy the parts of us that have been patterned off of compulsory schooling! Ha!). Besides the fundementals of what we will be applying, much discussion and detail will come up as we work together to create this garden.

2. WHAT WE NEED HELP WITH

We need help with a couple of things for the weekend to hum. First, I’m looking for a person or two to document the course. This could be relatively low-tech digital pictures and video clips running from a point and shoot digital camera. If anyone can get more sophisticated then let’s do that!

Second, we will be doing some site prep and gathering materials this Friday, March 6 around 3PM. We could use some hands to gather woodchip mulch from Cornacopia.

Third, IF EVERYONE CAN BRING SOME CARDBOARD TO THE COURSE FOR SHEET MULCHING, (along with shovels and other hand tools) that will be awesome! We will be using a lot for this project.

3. CARPOOLING

We’ve had a request for a carpool from Ojai, so if you’re coming from there – OR ANYWHERE ELSE OUTSIDE VENTURA – and are up for carpooling, please email me.

4. DISCOUNTS

I want to have fun and make this a big party. If you can bring a few friends, then we can cut the price down. Let’s say 4 for the price of 3. If you can only bring one other person, then they can come for $20. Whatever, let’s have fun and get these skills and gardens out there!

On the other hand, we have some folks offering extra money for those who can’t pay. If you can give extra money - that allows for people in the community to learn and possibly apply these skills to EARN. Remember, we can create our own economy and might have to in order to thrive into the future!

Lots of love,

Devin
