Even if you're not an architect or designer, consider serving as "public at large member"...
Linda
Dear Local Landscaping-Related Affiliate,
As you may be aware, the City is now recruiting to fill three open positions on the Architectural Board of Review in the following categories:
I am especially emailing this announcement to you because identifiying landscape architects available to serve on the ABR has been traditionally challenging for the City. Please note two changes which have been made to the ABR membership procedures in 2007 which we hope may make serving on the ABR more attractive than in the past.
1. Every other week schedule: The ABR full board now meets every other Monday afternoon through the evening, rather than every week as it did in the past. This less frequent full board time commitment may be more appealing to potential board members.
2. Stipend: A stipend of $50 per regular meeting attended and $25 per Consent Calendar meeting is now provided to ABR members. An evening meal is also provided when agendas are long. Although the City understands that these stipends by no means are comparable to the normal rates professionals in the architectural field would earn, the City feels it is important to show additional appreciation to Board members through this new stipend.
The Architectural Board of Review primarily reviews multi-family, commercial, and institutional design proposals. Service to the community as a member of the ABR presents a unique opportunity to positively influence the aesthetic beauty and sustainability of our community. Occasional formal trainings on various architecture related and governmental topics are also provided to the ABR members. Serving on the ABR also will allow you to build relationships with and learn from a wide range of professionals and members of the public. Last, the coming four-year term will involve especially important work to be done by the ABR as the City will be seeking input from the ABR as part of a General Plan Update. The Update will set forth community goals for the next 20 years.
Applications for the current recruitment must be received in the City Clerk's Office by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2007. Interviews will be conducted by City Council on November 20, 2007, and on December 4, 2007. The City Council will make appointments to fill the vacancies on December 18, 2007.
