Last year Oscar Carmona taught a great class for us on seed starting
in pots and flats. Now this Santa Barbara organic veteran will teach
us his favorite tips and tricks for planting seeds directly in the
ground.

“TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PLANTING SEEDS IN THE GROUND!WITH OSCAR
CARMONA AT HEALING GROUNDS SAT, APRIL 14, 10

“TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PLANTING SEEDS IN THE GROUND!will be the topic
of a free presentation by the Santa Barbara Organic Garden Club on
Saturday, April 14th from 10 am 12 pm. The event will be held at
Healing Grounds Nursery in Santa Barbara (www.healinggrounds.org). Co-
sponsors include HopeDance magazine, the Santa Barbara Permaculture
Network, Fossil-Free Landscaping and local sustainability think tank
For the Future.

The workshop leader will be Oscar Carmona, owner and manager of
Healing Grounds, an innovative program that combines an organic
nursery and a therapeutic horticulture program. Last year he
presented a workshop on seed starting in pots and flats and now he
will demonstrate some of the secrets of successfully growing healthy
organic plants from seed directly in the ground. Through hands-on
experience, participants will learn how to use these techniques in
their home gardens.

Healing Grounds teaches groups and individuals how to cultivate
plants in harmony with natural systems. It also produces organic
vegetable and herb seedlings for sale to the public and connects
people to nature through classes, workshops and lectures about
sustainable landscaping and gardening. Healing Grounds is operated
in cooperation with Transitions-Mental Health Association and is
located on San Antonio Road, block north of Calle Real.

The Santa Barbara Organic Club had its first meeting on July 12, 2000
and presents local events and activities on topics of interest to
gardeners weaning themselves from chemical pesticides, herbicides and
fertilizers.

The location is on San Antonio Rd. 1/2 block north of Calle Real.
>From Goleta take the 101 Freeway to Turnpike and turn left 1 block to
Calle Real. Turn right on Calle Real and go a very long block to
San Antonio Road and turn left.

>From Santa Barbara take the 101 Freeway to El Sueno. Turn left on
Calle Real. Go about 1/2 mile until you reach San Antonio Road and
turn right.

Healing Grounds is 1/2 block on the right. Park either on the
street or in the County parking lot just past the nursery. If you
