Project Mission:
To design and build a landscape that is not only aesthetically
beautiful, but also completely functional from an environmentally
sensitive perspective; to serve as a demonstration project by outreaching
to design professionals, planners and homeowners about creating
functional form, yet minimizing footprint on our planet.
Designing and Building with Nature, for People. Featuring:
- Rainwater harvesting & storage,
Groundwater recharge systems,
Permeable hardscape including porous cobblestone driveway,
Edible, drought tolerant and native plantings,
Smart irrigation system (supplemental),
Composting and solar PV systems,
Living (planted) retaining wall,
Fish pond & energy saving stream,
Gazebo sanctuary with recycled content roof,
Chemical free & used local materials and artisans.
By utilizing plants, materials and systems native to the Santa Barbara area, WELDesign and I have created an inviting living space for humans and wildlife alike. Textures, colors, sounds and smells carefully designed and installed to be in harmony with the natural world. -- Martin Stevenson.
