SANTA BARBARA ORGANIC GARDEN CLUB PRESENTS FREE TALK ON "NURSING YOUR SICK
LAND BACK TO HEALTH"

"NURSING YOUR SICK LAND BACK TO HEALTH" will be the topic at this month's
Santa Barbara Organic Club free presentation Wednesday, November 14 at 7 p.m.
at the Community Environmental Council Gildea Center at 930 Miramonte Drive
in Santa Barbara.

The speaker will be experimental farmer John Koman of White Dove Farm in
Santa Paula, who will describe his journey nursing infected avocado land back
to health using companion planting and other permaculture techniques. He'll
share what he's learned in that challenging process about what works and what
doesn't. He has rehabilitated an avocado orchard/ forest...is starting to
grow money crops like artichokes, epiphytes, mushrooms, cherimoyas, bananas,
cut flowers... keeps bees for pollination... uses strawberries as ground
covers - all within a "rainforest" canopy. His presentation will be
illustrated with slides.

The Santa Barbara Organic Club had its first meeting on July 12, 2000 and
presents monthly local events and activities on topics of interest to
gardeners weaning themselves from chemical pesticides, herbicides and
fertilizers.
