bioregional group will meet the last Friday of each month ("Great Fridays") For now these informal brown-bag lunch meetings will be held at the County Court House sunken Gardens at 12:00 noon.
        We'll discuss "community", "sustainability' and "bioregionalism' for this community- which includes business people, students, academia, seniors, trades people, fishing and AG folks , artists, environmentalists and non environmentalists alike. Through this process we hope to rebuild our community, instill hope, celebrate diversity(human and plant&animal) and begin to protect and rebuild our commons. in this group's discussions so far we see this broad bioregionalism discussion as a way to preserve social networks, connectivity and "roots" to the community and environment.

Calearth in Hesperia Ca. this is an all day annual trip to visit the demonstration
site, the Nature Center and new housing in Hesperia all using earth architecture to
build them. This is an amazing adventure see what can be done with earth
and it is truly low cost beautiful housing that does not tax the earth's biological
resources.

Kent Whealy is the director of the Seed Savers Exchange (SSE), a nonprofit
organization that he and his wife Diane founded in 1975. SSE is a
grassroots network of 8,000 gardeners, orchardists and plant collectors
who are maintaining heirloom varieties of vegetables, fruits, grains,
flowers and herbs, which they distribute through SSE’s annual
publications. In 1986 Kent began developing Heritage Farm, a unique
educational facility near Decorah, Iowa that maintains and displays
collections of 18,000 heirloom vegetables, 700 nineteenth century apples,
200 hardy grapes and herds of Ancient White Park cattle. In 1990 Kent was
awarded a MacArthur Fellowship for his efforts to conserve genetic
resources.

The Permaculture Credit Union is a reality. A new kind of environmentally responsive financial institution has been created and chartered. It is possibly the first credit union founded upon the Earth Care principles of Permaculture ethics, namely respect for natural systems, respect for people, and no waste ( which in banking will mean the reinvestment and recycling of surplus back into the community being served). Volume VIII of TRIP Is Ready
The eighth volume of The Resources of International Permaculture, a
directory, has just been published by Yankee Permaculture. TRIP lists about
2,000 organizations and publications that are allied with permaculture. The
listings of these groups are organized in three ways, so they can be looked
up by location, by name or by what the group does. TRIP is also available on
disk. The disk version includes a keyword field that allows exceedingly

Permaculture education includes principles and practices of
sustainable soil, water, crop, forest, architectural, business, and
finance systems ­ ethical investment, community loan support and small
business management.

Permaculture, from PERMAnent agriCULTURE, is an integrated system of
design including not only agriculture, horticulture, architecture and
ecology but also land access strategies and economic systems for small
businesses and communities.

Taken from the Latin, permanens, to endure or persist through time and
cultura, cultures - permaculture is an interdisciplinary design
science focused on sustainable system design. Sustainable systems are
defined as those that, over their lifetime, produce energy equivalent
to or in excess of what they consume.

Permaculture operates on three ethics: care of the earth, care of the
species and return of excess to the first two.
