 Green Schools Open on the East Side
Along with Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Global Green unveiled two new school projects with a
ribbon cutting ceremony.
On October 17th the ribbon was cut for Animo Ralphe Bunche and Animo Justice schools in Los Angeles.

ANGELES (Reuters) - Atop its pink factory in downtown Los Angeles, a
sprawling banner declares American Apparel a "Compania Rebelde" (rebel
company) and all over town, benches and billboards sponsored by the
company shout "Legalize LA."
Illegal LA - Immigration, Deportation, and the Right to Work
The "debate" over illegal immigration in the United States has always
been dominated by hotheads-pissy, sloganeering loudmouths on either
sides of the fence drawn together by their shared love of yelling crap
on radio call-in shows and steering the dialogue away from anything
approaching a solution. And since the 9/11 attacks (carried out by 16
legal immigrants and three on expired visas), the discussion has
basically devolved into an incomprehensible jumble. Like did you ever
see those supposedly pro-immigrant "A Day With No Mexicans" ads where
everyone's sad that there's nobody to mow lawns or sell tacos? Who'd
they get to write those, the KKK? Seriously, the whole thing just makes
us want to shut off our brains and watch Reba or something. But then we
remember the lives of some 12 million people hang in the balance of
this pissing match (as well as the American economy, welfare, national
security, etc), and it's like, "[exagerated sigh] OK, [rolling up
sleeves] looks like we'll have to wrestle this away from the assholes
after all."

This Halloween weekend marks the grand opening of

Join Next American City at Farmlab for lunch and the first talk in their URBANEXUS lecture series featuring Mark Vallianatos, co-author of The Next Los Angeles: The Struggle for a Livable City.
The lecture will focus on Los Angeles' politicized food landscape--from
the city's agricultural heritage, food justice and the fast-food ban,
to the future of food in a city transformed by immigration and global

 LA Family Housing (www.lafh.org)helps homeless families and
individuals rebuild their lives through an integrated system of
temporary shelter, affordable housing development and comprehensive
social services. The garden directly supports this community and can
operate as a learning center for the many children and adults trying to
transition from homelessness and poverty.

WANTED: Sustainable Works seeks Grant Writer
Sustainable Works is a non-profit, environmental-education organization
dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in the urban environment.
We are a project of Community Partners and funded by the City of Santa
Monica and Santa Monica College. We administer environmental programs
that focus on waste reduction and resource-use efficiency and engage
community stakeholders in the goals of the City of Santa Monica's
Sustainable City Plan. The Grant Writer will be responsible for all aspects of the grant
process from prospect research, grant writing, drafting, editing and
submission and reporting. Qualified candidates will have a
