Summer sizzles into Fall...
Be cool and save the date for the 1st annual Sustainable Works Fundraiser Thursday, October 16, 6PM-11PM -see below for all the inside scoop.
Speaking of sustainable work... The Santa Monica Permaculture Festival was a great success -art, culture, cob-building, seed balls, incredible food and a standing-room-only crowd attended Larry Santoyo's Intro to Permaculture session... Very special appreciation goes out to Traci Reitz and the rest of the staff at Sustainable Santa Monica, as well as Sean Jennings and the cast and crew of Westside Permaculture, Ray Cirino of Cob-a-Nation, Sustainable Works and Santa Monica College.

city officials hope to build Los Angeles' future epicenter of clean
technology and green jobs. The proposed Cleantech Manufacturing Center, east of Santa Fe Avenue, near 15th Street and Washington, would house green manufacturers in the "greenest" of facilities.

NEWS & NOTICES
The Emerald Necklace
The
Emerald Necklace is a vision for a 17-mile interconnected network of
multi-benefit trails, parks and greenways touching twenty cities and
over 1/2 million residents along the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers.
The proposed Emerald Necklace will unify more than 2,500 acres of
parks, open spaces and habitat corridors while reconnecting the
historically linked Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers. Nestled in the
heart of the San Gabriel Valley, the greenway will provide much needed
recreational areas for communities suffering from the effects of
chronic illness correlated with urban density: including obesity,
asthma, Type II diabetes, and hypertension. The Emerald Necklace has
the potential to become a world-class urban park network. The
contemporary urban park network is inspired by the 1929 Olmsted
Bartholomew plan for the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Region. The
Necklace and its "jewels" will significantly enhance recreational
opportunities for generations to come. http://www.amigosdelosrios.org/necklace.htm --- Hunger Action L.A.
