Marcia and the SDPG list,

I have been inspired by my experiences with the Katuah Bioregion / SE
permaculture gathering in 2003 and in 2006 and with a bioregional
gathering in Austin in 1999 to start or help start a similar gathering
here.

I imagine this will be a Friday, Saturday, Sunday event where people
can camp out or stay inside (perhaps at a place like Madre Grande
Monastery). The schedule of affinity circles/ workshops/info sharing,
for the most part, would determined by the participants once they
arrive using an "open space" process--a bottom-up, interest-based way
of planning a meeting, gathering, or conference.

These are my questions:

- Is anyone here already working on such a thing?

- What is the bioregional name for the SD/TJ area?

- If no one else is organizing a gathering, is it ok to use this list
for that purpose or should I start another?

I have begun to tell people I am helping organize this gathering--and
already I've had an enthusiastic response.

At the Shaktirising.org harvest festival I met someone who recommended
I attend the Herb Day on 10/17 -- http://www.followingseasons.com/ --
to meet a guy there to talk about the PC gathering.

I also made a lot of good connections at

The model for the gathering in my mind is the southeast permaculture
gathering (Katuah Bioregion), which I attended twice (2003 & 2006).
They have a website http://sepermaculture.org/ but it does not explain
the experience.

A central part of the experience are the ceremonies and the
corresponding mythology developed through the ceremonies---the
ceremonies and mythology are what added the magic to what would have
otherwise been simply an amazing networking experience.

My reasons for wanting to work on the gathering are that:

o It will let us all, at least for one weekend, experience community
in a nice outdoor place.
o It will be a catalyst for other networking, community, and
intentional community organizing in the region.

which is led partly by Starhawk-- I think I would prefer a drylands
course, but I am impressed by Starhawk, and the work-trade option
makes this one more manageable financially.
