Hello Everyone!
If you have not heard about the month garden party/ barn raising events through the Arroyo and Echo Park Time Bank, here it is, this Sunday! It's time to get ready for the next Barn Raising. It will take place at Ami Howard’s home in Eagle Rock (1922 Campus Road, LA 90041) on Sunday, September 25th.
Garden
work will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Garden Group meeting and
potluck at 12:00. The planning meeting and potluck will be
approximately 1 - 2 hours depending on input and there is an option to continue helping in the garden and socializing after the meeting. There will be great music playing all day long compliments of Ami's boyfriend Diego (an awesome DJ) and they welcome anyone who wants to come and play some live music as well. Some essential logistical details that Ami provided about the Barn Raising at her place are at the bottom of this email.
The
meeting at noon that follows the garden work will be critical for
deciding how the Garden Group is going to continue. We want to figure
out:
· What should the Garden Group do? e.g. barn raisings, facilitating land share partnerships, ongoing garden help
· How should the Garden Group organize itself? e.g. a facilitation committee, google docs
Please contact Laura Henne (laurahenne@gmail.com) and Justin Bilow (jbilow@gmail.com) with any comments or questions about the Barn Raising and the meeting.
We hope to see you there!
Additional logistical details:
Gardening needs:
· Compost distribution
· Drip irrigation installation
· Sowing seeds & planting natives and/or trees
Bring (if you have):
· Gloves
· Shovels
Picks
· Wheelbarrow
· Food or drink for the potluck
Directions from Campus Road:
Ami’s
house (1922 Campus Road) is near Occidental College in Eagle Rock. Once
on Campus Road, pay close attention for a sign stating "Road Ends In
250ft." The house is on a hill and is the last one on the
right on that road, which is still Campus Road. Do not continue driving
up the hill instead.
Parking:
Parking is limited right near the house. Please
park in the driveway without blocking the neighbors from getting out,
and avoid the red curbs. There's plenty of parking a block away attached
to Occidental College on Campus Road before the "Road Ends" sign.
Feel free to forward it to your friends :)

AND... next Friday, September 30th, we are having a SEED
EXCHANGE! so take the time this weekend to harvest the seeds from the
plants that have done their deed for the year, put the seeds in a bag
and label them - then come to Club Fais Do Do next Friday evening
(6-8pm) to exchange them. Even if you do not have seeds to exchange,
come and get some - please do leave a donation if you didn't bring seeds
to exchange for the labor and love put into those plants.
Mark Lakeman and Larry Santoyo will also be sharing their wealth of
knowledge at this event - so lots of things to participate in at our new
permaculture club in LA!! Rock'n!!
