HM157's 3rd Annual
Summer Solstice Festival
June 18-19, 2011
On Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19, 2011, we're holding our 3rd Annual Summer Solstice Festival, a weekend of music featuring many of our absolute favorite local bands. The two-day extravaganza, HM157’s biggest event of the year, kicks off at 2:00pm Saturday, wrapping up at midnight on Sunday. We're particularly proud to be flying in legendary experimental guitarist Michael Yonkers from Minnesota for the event. The extensive festival line-up also includes Latin-infected hip hop duo Icy Lytes, local Americana favorites Whispering Pines, Amanda Jo Williams’ quirky country-folk, old time musical stylings of RT n’ the 44s, Latin reggae/rock band XUE, 1920s Safari S’ Goody with a cheeky chimp on drums, burlesque by Jewel of Denial, plus many more talented acts ... check out the flyer above and our site for the full line-up: http://thechurchoffashion.com/main/2011/04/0618-0319-hm157-summer-solstice-3-yr-anniversary-happening/

HM157 is located at 3110 North Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90031. $10 suggested donation per day; advance tickets recommended due to limited capacity. Kids are welcome and always admitted free. Michael Yonkers -
Minneapolis-based experimental guitar god, Michael Yonkers began his musical career in the 1960s. He formed his own Michael Yonkers Band in 1967 and soon thereafter, recorded the album Microminiature Love; now hailed as one of the great experimental/psych records of all time. This album was only recently released by SubPop, to the delight of record-collectors everywhere, and thrust him from relative obscurity into the current, thriving psych scene, playing with the likes of Six Organs of Admittance, Comets on Fire and The Plastic Crimewave. An often cited guru of musical exploration, the range of Yonkers' work is remarkable, from raw electronic noise to acoustic meanderings to classic rock and roll. These explorations can be heard on Free Flight, a collection of his unreleased recordings from 1964 to 1969. Yonkers is a legendary figure in outsider music-lore who, through his own modifications, created his own guitars and effects which he still uses today. He rarely plays on the West Coast, so it is a rare treat indeed to have him ... not to be missed.
