A PLACE for Sustainable Living will be officially opening its doors to the general public on Saturday, May 7th 2011 from 10am-8pm! Come on out to our new East Bay center featuring a family friendly brunch with activities and entertainment for children of all ages, Sustainability Sampler workshops and speakers, a Barnyard Bazaar of sustainable artisans and craftfolks, Solutionary Showcase exhibits, performances, music, food, drink and more.Centrally located in the Golden Gate District of North Oakland, our mission is to serve as an experiential learning center to showcase and foster sustainable living practices, urban homesteading, community resiliency and preparedness, social justice and artistic expression.

Activities
Come early at 10am for Qigong in the Garden to begin the morning followed with family friendly entertainment, crafts and garden workshops, an interactive Group Groove with world percussion instruments and brunch all from 10am-1pm. Note: There will be a Tin Can Banjo Making Class at 10:30am, so make sure you bring your tin cans! Performances with a Rock the Bike powered Sound System features, Aaron Ableman's Pacha Mamas Pajamas, Doc Molitov's Cowboy Culture, and the Big Tadoo Puppet Crew. Also from 10am - 3pm will be our Barnyard Bazaar, a venue for local artisans and craftspeople to sell their sustainable creations. The event will also feature our "Sustainability Sampler" workshops and speakers addressing sustainable living and community
resiliency.

Throughout the day will feature: Clothing Swap, Facility Tours on the Hour, Earth Peace Mandala making/Fabric Mural, COBboose rides, Open Garden Planting, Solutionary Showcase exhibits including a bike-powered stage, solar cooker, cob oven, solar electrical system, greywater systems, and a model green home exhibit, and Spokeland will be available throughout the day to answer bicycle repair questions, do bike triage, and help people perform minor repairs and adjustments.
Acoustic Music throughout the day: Katie Mourning, Adelijah, Justin Ancheta, Kingman Lim, Ariel Eisen, Lydia Deerheart, Miriam Speyer, Tyler Matthew Smith.
Closing out the day with a sunset performance at 7pm will be Corpus Callosum, a seven-piece ensemble. Imagine, if you will, a roving gang of puppeteers, river gamblers, train-hoppers, mad scientists, and a general assortment of oddish characters.

- Elizabeth Dougherty, WhollyH20 @2pm Elizabeth Dougherty is experienced in building strategic linkages between diverse stakeholders whose efforts are geared towards increasing sustainable usages of localized resources. Areas of expertice include sustainable agriculture, agroecology, agroforestry, permaculture, climate change mitigation, energy efficiency, and demand response.
- K. Ruby Blume - Institute for Urban Homesteading @ 3:45pm K. Ruby is an educator, gardener, beekeeper, artist, performer and activist, with 20+ years experience gardening in an urban setting. She founded The Institute of Urban Homesteading in 2008 and co-authored the book Urban Homesteading: Heirloom Skills for Sustainable Living release date April 2011.
- Michael Sammet - Former Director of Sustainable Design at Uc Berkeley Extension @ 4:20pm In addition to teaching the Sustainability Studio in CCA's MBA in Design Strategy program, Michael Sammet teaches Sustainable Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is the lead instructor in the Sustainable Practices Certificate program at Dominican University and created the Professional Program in Sustainable Design at UC Berkeley Extension in San Francisco. Michael is passionate about the power of the applied principles of sustainability to help improve the quality of our lives and society, while
reducing our impact on the planet.
- Aaron Lehmer - Bay Localize @ 5:45pm Aaron co-founded Bay Localize, is the Campaign Director and manages their Green Your City program. He publishes Bay Localize News, and helps coordinate their outreach, communications, and fundraising efforts. He also serves on the Oakland Climate Action Coalition Steering Committee, the Oakland Food Policy Council, and Earth Island Institute's Program Committee.
- Laurence of Berkeley, Neighborhood Vegetables, Neighborhood Villages @ 6:00pm Laurence of Berkeley is the main organizer of Neighborhood Vegetables, a community-focused group that assists residents with planting their vegetable garden by holding neighborhood garden work parties
- Laura Allen - Greywater Action @ 6:15pm Laura is a founding member of Greywater Action and has spent a decade exploring low-tech, urban sustainable water solutions. She is a co-editor of the anthology Dam Nation: Dispatches from the Water Underground. Laura leads classes and workshops on urban ecological sanitation technologies of rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse and composting toilets. Laura also works with the Greywater Alliance to help remove institutional barriers to sustainable water use.
- Beck Cowles - Ecology Center @ 6:30pm The Ecology Center facilitates urban lifestyles consistent with the goals of ecological sustainability, social equity, and economic development. We seek to make these goals accessible by providing people with the information they need, the alternatives they seek, and the infrastructure necessary to make sustainable practices possible on a large scale. We aim to make the visionary mainstream. Our programs include Information Services, Berkeley's residential curbside recycling, the three Berkeley Farmers' Markets, the Farm Fresh Choice food justice program, and the EcoHouse
demonstration house and garden. We also serve as the fiscal sponsor for a wide range of projects that align with our mission.
- Jonathan Youtt - Catalyst & Co-Founder Sustainable Living Roadshow @ 6:45pm Jonathan co-founded Sustainable Living Roadshow in 2005 and has been active in manifesting this shared vision ever since. As the brainchild & Big Mouth Barker behind Conscious Carnival, he has helped create eco-games of chance, which engage participants with entertaining and fun activities while they learn about a variety of issues concerning the environment and sustainability. Another current edu-tainment project is the Big Tadoo Puppet Crew, which is a
puppet troupe that creates and performs politically and environmentally conscious puppetry. Other projects that were co-founded and catalyzed by Jonathan include the Esperanza Sustainability Center, an educational center for urban agriculture, sustainable living strategies, and artistic expression; the Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition, a collective of clean fuel advocates sharing resources and information about renewable fuels; the Mission Village Market, a dynamic Mission District SF Art, Farm & Flea Market; and CELLspace, a collaborative arts center which provides a safe and supportive public environment for the exploration of art, education,
performance, and community building (Currently Celebrating its 15th Year).
- Zachary Carson - Co-Founder & Director Sustainable Living Roadshow @ 6:45pm Zach has been involved in the vision of SLR since its inception. He is currently responsible for integrating and directing the collective vision and extended network into the SLR community. Zach is also responsible for business development and meta-networking associated with the growth of SLR. Zach has a BS from the University of Vermont in Ecological Design, Sustainable Development and Environmental Education. Since 2005, Zach has been responsible for developing and producing regional, national and international tours for non-profits,
bands and businesses that desire to leverage the platform of entertainment to promote social and environmental causes and expand brand awareness. Zach has also helped launch and consult on the development of several small businesses and non-profit organizations across the US. Zach gains much of his inspiration from our planets abundant natural treasures and works to constantly stay in tune with "natures operating instructions", surrendering to the organic flow of ecological alchemy that affects us all.
